What is your opinion of "Ghost Boxes", we've heard about them being used in paranormal investigations. How do they work?

Ok, here goes:

My degree is in electronics engineering technology, and I've built my own AM and FM radios from total scratch. So I know more about this "technology" than most of the population. An AM radio consists of 3 electronic components, and DC power. A transistor, a pull-up resistor, and a capacitor. That's the most basic AM radio. An FM radio is a bit more complicated. Did you know that traditional TV transmission uses AM radio to transmit the video signal? Or that the audio signal you hear on your TV is transmitted via FM radio? Or if there's a problem with a TV's audio receiver, it can sound ghostly. Or when building one of those old fashioned toilet tube and copper wire AM radios, you can make ghost sounds just by dragging the brass tab across the copper wires while the ear bud is in your ear. I can attach a 6 volt lantern battery to a metal file, and when I drag a nail across that file, I'll fool any ghost hunter within 100' of me that there's something "paranormal" in the area, because that will create "white noise" and "audio spikes".

What the ghost box is looking for, is the barely audible sounds in the frequency spectrum of AM and FM radio. Those sounds aren't paranormal, they're normal. They're always there. They're called "sidebands" of normal audio transimissions. You know when you throw a rock in the water, and look at the ripples? The ripples close to the middle are big, and the ones 10 feet away are barely noticable? The same thing happens to all audio transmissions. The stuff you hear ont he radio are the big ripples, and the stuff you hear on the ghost box are the tiny ripples. They're not paranormal in nature. The only thing paranormal is when people make these audio amplifiers trying to listen for these normal frequencies, and try to say that they're paranormal. The paranormal part of that is only in the listeners brain. Not in reality.

If ghosts really were trying to contact us, what makes the people who created the first ghost box think they're going to do it via AM/FM radio? The real reason they said ghosts try to contact us on this frequency band, is that it's easy to create a ghost box in this band. Not because it's a reality, but because if it were on the 450Mhz band (or any other frequency band for that matter), no one would have a clue how to create a ghost box on that band. Why wouldn't they try to connect on the 450Mhz band (the emergency band for cops/ambulances etc.), or the 800Mhz band where cell phones and old cordless phones work, or the 2.4Ghz band where new cordless phones, and computer data transmission works. Or even better yet, on the shortwave radio band, where people LISTEN as a hobby. Millions of people all over the planet LISTEN on shortwave radios every day as a hobby. Ever seen the movie Contact?! Perfect example. In fact, now that I'm thinking about this, why did ghosts choose to use the only frequency band with 1 way transmission? Every other band besides AM/FM radio, is 2 way transmission. 450Mhz, 800Mhz, 2.4Ghz, Shortwave, all of these are 2 way transmission, but AM/FM is only 1 way. If I were a ghost, I'd choose a different frequency!

Now, as one sided as my above rant is, I'm willing to listen to your ghost box, and I'm open to having my opinion changed. Rebecca can attest to my open-mindedness. It's going to take some really hard evidence for that though. :)

My older daughter told me yesterday that she would see a group of 3 people outside of her room when she went to bed at night. When she was younger she would never sleep in her own room at night.

She described the people to me. One was an older man in a tuxedo, there was a woman with her hair in a bun wearing old clothes like Little House on the Prairie with Ruffled Sleeves and the 3rd was a short man with jean overalls on. She said that they would stare at her no matter where she slept. The only time that she didn't see them was when she was sleeping with me.

I'm just really curious as to who they are and what they wanted. I asked her if she ever tried to communicate with them, she said no.

It sounds like your daughter is an "empath" and that she is sensitive to spirits. She more than likely has one or more of the "clair-abilities". I will give you a link to one of my web sites that discusses these abilities. Sound like Clairvoyance is the one that applies to her seeing the people outside her room.

Where these people she saw? were they outside of the house, in the yard or near the street, or were they inside the house, but just outside her door? Can you clairify?

Also, how long ago was this and how old was she when it happened and how old is she now, are you still in the same house? Is she still bothered by them or has she stopped seeing them? 

Without having any additional info, my guess is that they could be ancestral - without knowing her age it's hard to surmise whether she would recognize any relatives. Also the time of year might indicate a relative returning (anniversary of a death date or around May/October as the veils between the spirit worlds are considered to be thinner and easier to breach and make contact).

Without telling her why,.. you could show her old photos of relatives and see if there is any reaction or recognition of them. If you tell her why you are having her look at them, it might feed into the recognition and she might try to please you by identifying them.

My other thought, which is more likely, would be that if they were OUTSIDE of the home, that they might have been a casualty of the property, either having passed there, perhaps as a vehicular accident or died either in the building you lived in or as I mentioned on the property in another building that used to be there. Without more information it's hard to surmise what is likely to have happened.

I would recommened a trip to the library, historical society or tax assessors office and look at the property records, to determine who lived there and how they died. If she does have mediumship abilities then this fact finding trip for info can be an extremely validating experience for her (or any medium) as it gives legitimacy to the experiences she has been having, then she will more likely believe in herself when she has other things happen rather than dismissing them as her imagination or thinking that she is crazy.

I would only recommend this if you are still in the home and she is experiencing trouble sleeping or otherwise. If this was for an isolated time and she no longer has any issues with it then I would just keep it in the back of your mind.

Read the information on the web site I mentioned above, I'm certain you will also find that you have abilities as well and will recognize some of the examples used.

As far as moving forward, I would have her keep a journal of any experiences or impressions she has with the paranormal or any intuitive experiences or dreams that seem unusual or profound in some way. Encourage her to talk about this with you and provide a supportive environment for her to share. I am curious as to why she all of a sudden volunteered this info,... did something happen to trigger it or was it just comfortable for her to finally share it (coming up in conversation)?

In any event, be open to her (and your) clair-abilities. Everyone has some of them to a degree, but not everyone has all of them. You might be wondering why they come to her,... it is my belief that those who have the gift of sight, are in a way, a light to those in the dark. They are a beacon, think about it for a moment and imagine that you are in spirit, and no one reacts to you, they can't see or hear you,... but all of a sudden,.. someone CAN see you and they know you are there,.. wouldn't you come right over? Surely you would.

I submit to you that because she is light and can see them, that they gravitate to her. Now since this was an isolated time (the only time you mentioned was when she wouldn't sleep in her room and that eventually stopped correct?) and it seems to have passed, they either crossed on their own, or found another light, or they were just visiting in the case of relatives (that's why I mentioned ancestral earlier).
